Transforming Healthcare Education for IDD
We rewrote the book on intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Now, we’re redefining how to teach it.
The global population of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) continues to face significant disparities in access to quality healthcare. Medical, dental, and allied healthcare professions often lack the training and resources necessary to adequately serve this population. At Lee Specialty Clinic, we are committed to addressing these challenges by focusing on the root cause: improving healthcare education. By equipping future healthcare professionals with the specialized knowledge and skills needed to care for individuals with IDD, we aim to close the gap and ensure equitable, high-quality care for all.
Building a Better Future Through Collaboration
Parity in healthcare access for patients with IDD can only be achieved when teaching programs in medicine, dentistry, and allied health integrate specialized instruction in caring for this population. To address this need, Lee Specialty Clinic partners with accredited institutions worldwide to develop programs that expand the knowledge and clinical expertise of students at all levels.
Our collaborations include esteemed institutions such as the University of Louisville, University of Kentucky, and New York University. These partnerships equip future healthcare professionals with the skills and compassion necessary to provide exceptional, patient-centered care for individuals with IDD.
Hands-On Experience That Makes a Difference
Through interdisciplinary practicums and clinical instruction, students and residents gain invaluable hands-on experience. At Lee Specialty Clinic, our knowledgeable mentors guide them in treating patients with IDD, sharing expertise built on years of clinical practice. This unique approach allows students to witness the joy and fulfillment that comes from making a difference in the lives of this special patient population.
